grant

How it works

YPC 2012 Funding Deadlines:
Letter Of Intent: February 10, 2012
Application Deadline: April 6, 2012
There are three main steps to applying for a grant from us (but they are really part of a number of steps involved in the planning, making and doing of a successful project).

one

Step 1—Review Funding Guidelines

Determine if your organization and project fit our criteria. If after reading the guidelines you are still uncertain, contact us to clarify your project’s eligibility.

two

Step 2—Submit a letter of interest

Basically, a one- or two-page letter that explains what your project idea is,why it’s important, who is involved, when it’s going to happen, how much it’s going to cost, and how much you would like to request from YPC.

  • Use our online form to submit your letter of intent
  • Within a couple of weeks, staff and YPC will review it to make sure it fits our basic eligibility criteria and priorities
  • We’ll give you know one of three answers:
    • yes, we would like you to submit an application because we agree that it’s a project that fits our general funding interests
    • not yet, we need more information before we can decide if it’s a fit for our funding
    • no, we can’t invite an application because it’s not a fit for our funding

three

Step 3—Submit an application

We’ll send you the application forms and instructions you’ll submit it by the next deadline date. You’ll return the completed application by the next deadline date.

What happens after you submit your application?

Vancouver Foundation staff and YPC members will review your application, along with all the others that we have received before our deadline. We’ll read it, try to make sure we understand it, and we’ll probably contact you to set up a meeting or a site-visit to learn more. After considering all that information, YPC members meet to review and discuss all the received applications.Through that discussion, the YPC members will come to a consensus on what projects they would like to recommend for funding.YPC recommendations (along with the recommendations from all Vancouver Foundation volunteer Advisory Committees) are presented to Vancouver Foundation’s Board of Directors for final approval. After Board approval, we let you know whether or not your grant was approved. If we are able to make a grant, (which is way more fun than not making a grant), we’re going to ask you to do a few more things. Like tell people that you got a grant from us! And invite us to see stuff that you’re doing! And share what you learn from the project by doing a little evaluation and final report, and posting stuff on this website! From all this, we learn more about youth issues, we can share your stories, we get better at making decisions, we’re able to inspire other youth and adults to recognize the impact that youth make every day, and we assure donors that their generosity does make a meaningful difference in communities.
