2012 Grant Deadlines!

There are only a few days left in 2011, but we wanted to make sure you had plenty of notification regarding Vancouver Foundation’s upcoming 2012 grant application deadlines! So start thinking and planning for really cool, innovative and youth-driven projects that can help make your community, neighborhood or school a better, more safe, inclusive, green and fun space for all young people. The letter of intent is due FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 2012. That’s the first step. Once we get your letter of intent and had a chance to review, we’ll invite you to submit a full application which will be due FRIDAY, APRIL 6, 2012.
YPC will be hosting a workshop in the new year to help answer any questions you may have about the grant application process. Keep an eye out on our website for that announcement. Happy holidays everyone.

Mini Grants/Funding Opportunity!!!

YPC knows youth have great ideas that can create positive change in the community! But sometimes it’s hard to find the resources to help get your idea off the ground. So… are you a young person with a great project idea for your school, community, neighborhood and need just a couple of hundred dollars to make it happen? Vancouver Foundation’s Youth Philanthropy Council is excited to announce a new (and quicker) way for youth-led projects to get some funding. We would like to invite you to come out to the YPC Mini Grants workshop day. All the details are below. We encourage you to RSVP by e-mailing Nicole at nicolem@vancouverfoundation.ca

WORKSHOP DETAILS

Date: Saturday, October 30, 2010
Time: noon - 4pm (from noon to 2pm: YPC members will be there to help you out and you can sign up for a time in the afternoon to pitch your idea)
(from 2 to 4pm: pitch your idea to YPC… kinda like a 5-7 minute presentation about what you want to do and why you want to do it)
Location: Roundhouse Community Centre which is located at 181 Roundhouse Mews. The best way to get there is take the Canada Line skytrain and get off at Roundhouse Station.

FUNDING GUIDELINES

Who can apply?
-Youth between 12 to 24 who live, work, play, volunteer or go to school in Vancouver
-Youth applicants must partner with a non-profit organization or school. If you’re not connected to a community organization, give us a shout and we can help.

How much and for what?
-Mini grants are up to a maximum of $500
-Projects should address 1 of the 4 priority areas identified in the Youth Vital Signs report.
These 4 areas are: 1) Poverty 2) Youth Housing & Homelessness 3) Safety 4) Going Green
We encourage you to check out the Youth Vital Signs report online at www.youthvitalsigns.ca to learn more about these 4 areas, find out what organizations are doing work in each area and maybe get some inspiration for your project.

What YPC CAN’T fund:
-student exchanges or trips to conferences
-third party fundraising (this means we can’t give you funding so you can then donate the money back to another organization)
-retroactive funding (if your project already happened or took place a while ago and you’re looking for some funding to recover the costs, sorry, we can’t do that)
-office equipment or furniture (this includes purchasing computers or laptops)
-registration fees for conferences, events or extracurricular activities
-school field trips
-amatuer and school sports teams
-activities of religious organizations that serve primarily their membership and/or are for direct religious purposes
-paying yourself
-mini grants are NOT “party” grants

2010 Grant Deadlines

Happy New Year everyone. We hope you all had a nice, relaxed and fun holiday season with friends and family. We thought we would start 2010 off right by announcing our YPC grant deadlines. We will have one grant cycle this year that will take place in the Fall (or Autumn if you prefer). The dates are as follows:

Letter Of Intent Deadline: September 16, 2010
A letter of intent is a one-page description of what you plan to do, an outline of your proposed goals and activities and how much money you need to do it. We ask that you fill out the online letter of intent form which you can find if you click on “Getting A Grant” on the left hand side. Once you’ve clicked on that, hit the “Start Now” button and get started on telling us what you’d like to accomplish with your project and how it will benefit the youth community.

Once we’ve received your letter of intent, we will give it a read and if it is a fit with YPC’s goals and objectives, we will invite you to complete a full funding application.

Grant Application Deadline: October 7, 2010

For more information on the step-by-step process of how to get a grant from YPC, check out the “How It Works” section under the “Getting A Grant” tab. Before you do that, please make sure you’ve read over YPC’s goals and funding guidelines to see if your project would be a fit. And of course, if you’re not sure, give us a shout or email.

Calling all SURREY youth…

The youth population in Surrey is growing fast. Are you a young person who lives, works, studies or volunteer in Surrey? The Surrey Youth Forum will be taking place on September 19, 2009. This forum is intended to create a space for youth, youth allies and community stakeholders to address concerns and successes for the Surrey youth community. It also seeks to bring youth to the table in creating smart solutions for the City of Surrey while looking to provide future opportunities for collaboration, awareness and capacity building for youth programming in Surrey. And best of all, it is 100% FREE with bus tickets and refreshments provided.

Space is limited to sign up early and spread the word. The Surrey Youth Forum is brought to you by the following event sponsors: Point Youth Media, Vancouver Foundation, PeerNet BC and SFPIRG.

Fall 2009 Grants & New Members

Hello one and all,

We hope you are having a great summer so far! It is that time of year again and we have a couple of updates and announcements:

First off, YPC is accepting letters of intent for project funding. So if you have an idea that will spread youth voice and make your community a better place for young people, consider applying for a grant. Deadline to submit your letter of intent is September 17, 2009. Before you submit your project idea though, make sure you read through our funding guidelines in order to know what is and is not eligible for funding. You can find this by clicking our “getting a grant” tab on the left hand side. After we’ve read through all the letters of intent, we will send you the full grant application to fill out.

Second, we’re looking for some new, vivacious, members to join the Youth Philanthropy Council. An information session will take place in early September so keep your eyes posted for the update. YOUTH VITAL SIGNS LAUNCH!

it’s been a long year but Youth Vital Signs is officially here and we are launching the results today to Mayor Robertson and Council at City Hall at 2pm. To read about the results of the final report and hear the voices of 1700 youth who took the survey, please visit www.youthvitalsigns.ca

The Youth Philanthropy Council would like to wish each and every one of you a very happy new year. We finished our Fall 2008 grant cycle last December and are happy to be able to support some awesome youth projects! We also have some great energy with new folks joining the YPC and are looking forward to a busy 2009. Youth Vital Signs www.youthvitalsigns.ca is in full swing so keep your eye out for the hard copy report–coming soon to a community centre, coffee shop or school near you!

Many of you have been asking about YPC’s funding for 2009. Due to the economic downturn, Vancouver Foundation, like any other community foundation or organization with investments, has been impacted. Vancouver Foundation will only have one funding cycle in Fall of 2009. At this time, we would encourage you to keep checking out YPC’s website for updates. Youth Vital Signs is here! And what exactly is it? Youth Vital Signs is a youth-driven research and public opinion initaitve that gives fresh voice to youth ages 15 to 24. It's a youth report card, on your city. Youth are handing out the grades and youth are giving their opinions on issues such as transportation, housing & homelessness and youth voice in decision-making.


From October 23 to November 15, 2008, let your voice be heard on the issues that matter to YOU and your city.  Go online and start grading today at: www.youthvitalsigns.ca



YOUTH VITAL SIGNS

Ever want to share your thoughts on what it’s like for a young person to live, work and play in Vancouver? Ever want to be the one who handed out the grades, rather than be graded? It’s time to represent. 
Youth Vital Signs is getting the pulse on youth in Vancouver.  Modeled on the success of Vancouver Foundation’s Vital Signs, it’s a youth-led initiative to give voice to opinions and experience of Vancouver’s youth population and to inspire change through understanding, knowledge and action.  It’s your report card, on your city. 
We’ll be launching the survey in mid October, 2008 and we will want YOUR VOICE on issues such as Education, the Enviroment, Arts and Culture and so forth.  In the meantime, if you would like more information on Youth Vital Signs, please contact ypc@vancouverfoundation.ca or call 604.629.5358
