about
We’re always on the look-out for new members, youth ages 15-21, who live in Greater Vancouver and have a committed interest in working with others to provide peer support and community leadership around issues that impact young people. Most of our members start getting involved in the summer or the beginning of a school year, but as long as there’s room at the table, new members are welcomed anytime.
We want to maintain a committee made up of a diverse group of youth whose members bring a wide range of personal, community and school experiences to their understanding of issues facing youth in Vancouver. We don’t really care what your grades are, what school you go to (or even if you’re currently in school) – we’re just looking for youth with different voices, opinions and perspectives that can help our group have good discussions that lead to good decisions.
You must be able to commit to attend a monthly meeting held on a Monday evening (5PM-8PM) at Vancouver Foundation’s downtown offices, plus occasional other evening and weekend activities for the entire school year that total an average of 8 to 10 hours per month.
Although YPC members are volunteers, costs of food, training, transportation and childcare related to your participation on the Council are covered.
If you think you’d make a good candidate, you’ll need to fill out a short application form that tells us a little bit about you and your reasons for wanting to get involved. Staff and YPC members will review it and get in touch with you as soon as they can.
To ask more questions, just contact Pegah Pourkarimi or Mark Gifford at 604.688.2204 or ypc@vancouverfoundation.ca. If you’re good to go, download an application form [PDF] here.
